Your Container Royalty Payments

CONTAINER ROYALTIES

This is an annual payment based on container tonnage handled in the Ports of Philadelphia and Wilmington.

Containerization Fund Payout

The payout checks or direct deposits will be dated the 3rd Friday in December.

Based on all tonnage and contributions collected the current Contract Year.
Each eligible member will receive the same gross amount, before payroll taxes, dues, deductions, etc.
For those members not electing direct deposit, paper checks will be mailed on the Wednesday before the check date.
You have the option to defer ALL or a portion of your Container payout as a deferred contribution into your individual Defined Contribution Pension Account. A new deferral form must be completed for each payout. These forms will be mailed out 3 weeks before the payout and available from the ILA Benefits Office.
These contributions are NOT treated as wages for federal income tax purposes; however, they are subject to Social Security (FICA) tax and depending on the state, may be subject to state or local income tax.
An option to defer on a Roth basis has been added. These contributions are treated as wages for Federal, State and Social Security tax, but the contributions and the gains on these contributions NOT taxable when withdrawn from your retirement account.

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS FORMS

INITIAL ELIGIBILITY

BASIC UNIT

8 years of service and 8,000 hours total
OR
8 of last 10 years of service and 8,000 hours total

MAINTAINING ELIGIBILITY

Basic Unit Members as of December 1, 1990, or Members previously eligible for Container Payout.

AND

During a Contract Year, member is credited with at least 600 Work Hours OR a combination of Work Hours, Workers Comp Credits and/or Disability Credits totaling at least 700 Hours.
Workmen’s Compensation or Disability Credits will be posted at 20 hours per week for up to three years.
